Friday, June 26 Cefalu to the Aeolian Islands… Alicudi to Filicudi to Salina
We got up early in the morning and set sail for the Aeolian Islands, a volcanic archipelago in the Tyrrhenian Sea north of Sicily. Our planned destination was a small island called Alicudi which was a little over 30 nautical miles from Cefalu. On arrival we discovered it didn’t offer much for shelter or on-land services so we opted to try Filicudi to the east. To our disappointment it was much the same there, so we pressed on, to the south towards Salina. As we approached the northeast corner of the island the sun set behind us, and we sailed into the marina by night. It was much more developed on Salina and the marina was comfortable, though very expensive in comparison to all the other marina’s we’ve been mooring at (€100/night!) It was nice to crawl into my bed after a full day of sailing.
